About Rachel

Democrat for Cary

Like so many of us, Rachel Jordan isn’t from Cary, but her connection to this place is strong. Born in California, she grew up in North and South Carolina, but spent her childhood visiting her grandmother in Raleigh and watching the Triangle grow. Over the years, her parents and siblings settled in the area and Rachel continued regular visits. As an adult, she was struck by Cary’s tremendous growth and its ability to maintain both a small town feel and a big-hearted inclusivity that embraces new citizens from around the world.

Rachel’s introduction to public service came in 2008 when she volunteered for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. Knocking on doors all over Atlanta and talking to people throughout the city opened her eyes to the promise of government and the value of inspired leadership.

A move to Washington DC in 2009 saw Rachel enter the world of fine dining as a sommelier at Michelin starred restaurateur Eric Ziebold’s CityZen. During that time, she gained a keen appreciation of the joys and challenges of operating a small business while interacting with a broad cross-section of people. In the space of a walk from the dining room to the kitchen her world could shift from Senators hashing out laws over expensive bottles of wine to the dishwashers and servers who might be most affected by those laws.

These experiences, combined with the birth of her daughter, led Rachel to first begin thinking about public service. In 2016 Rachel moved to Cary with her husband Brian and daughter Ada. She began getting to know the place she had only visited for years. When Ada started school, Rachel threw herself into volunteering. She has been a Democratic Precinct Chair and served the Alston Ridge Elementary PTA with vigor, as both Cultural Arts Representative and VP of Communications.
